Inspection of buildings for accessibility for people with reduced mobility (MRM)

Accessibility of buildings and structures for people with reduced mobility is an important aspect of modern design, reconstruction and operation of real estate. Ukrainian legislation, in particular the Law of Ukraine “On the Fundamentals of Social Protection of Persons with Disabilities in Ukraine,” provides for mandatory provision of conditions for unimpeded access to construction projects for people with disabilities.

Why conduct an accessibility survey?

Inspection of buildings for accessibility for MHM is mandatory for:

  • Compliance with legal regulations: compliance of the facility with the requirements of DBN B.2.2-40:2018 “Inclusivity of Buildings and Structures” guarantees its legal status.
  • Creating a comfortable environment: providing conditions for all categories of the population, including people with disabilities, the elderly, and parents with strollers.
  • Avoidance of penalties: non-compliance with the standards may result in administrative fines or even a ban on the operation of the facility.

The main stages of the examination

  • Visual inspection
The presence of ramps, elevators, and lifts is checked.
Entrance groups, door widths, thresholds, and entrances to the facility are analyzed.
  • Assessment of the interior
We check whether the width of corridors, doors and sanitary facilities meet accessibility requirements.
Checking the availability of tactile signs, information signs for people with visual impairments.
  • Testing of functional elements
Operation of call buttons, automatic doors.
Availability and functionality of assistance systems (e.g., audible alerts).
  • Documenting the results
Drawing up an inspection report with recommendations for eliminating the identified violations.
Providing a conclusion on the compliance of the facility with applicable standards.
