Construction work of any complexity

Construction work includes a wide range of activities, from minor repairs and reconstruction to the construction of large infrastructure and industrial buildings. A company that provides such services must have the appropriate license, experience and knowledge in the construction industry to ensure high quality and compliance with all building codes and standards.

The main stages of construction works

In general, the process of performing construction work of any complexity consists of several key stages:

  • Design and approval of documentation. At this stage, the project documentation is prepared in accordance with the requirements of the State Construction Standards, in particular, for example, DBN A.2.2-3:2014 “Composition and Content of Project Documentation for Construction”. The project is approved by the relevant authorities to obtain a construction permit.
  • Preparatory works. At this stage, the construction site is prepared, including its cleaning, dismantling of obsolete structures (if any), and installation of temporary utilities and roads.
  • Earthworks and foundation construction. The foundation of any building is the foundation, which is calculated depending on the type of soil and load. Relevant DBNs are applied, such as DBN B.2.1-10:2009 “Bases and Foundations of Buildings and Structures”.
  • Construction of load-bearing structures. This is one of the most crucial stages, including the construction of walls, floors, columns, and roofing. It is important to comply with the DBN B.2.2-9-2009 “Public Buildings and Structures” when it comes to residential or public buildings.
  • Engineering communications. Water supply, sewerage, heating, ventilation, electricity and other networks are installed. There are also relevant regulations for this stage, for example, DBN B.2.5-64:2012 “Electrical Equipment of Buildings and Structures”.
  • Finishing works. Finally, interior and exterior finishing works are carried out, which include finishing walls, floors, ceilings, installing doors, windows, etc. Completion of finishing works indicates that the project is approaching the final stage.
  • Putting the facility into operation. Upon completion of construction, the quality of work is checked for compliance with the project and standards. Obtaining a declaration of readiness for operation is the final stage.

Peculiarities of construction works of high complexity

The construction of complex facilities, such as multi-storey buildings, industrial structures, and infrastructure facilities, requires experience, specialized knowledge, and technical capabilities. Such projects often involve specialists of various profiles, including design engineers, surveyors, architects, and strict technical supervision over compliance with the State Building Code and other regulations.

What are the types of construction works?

Construction works cover a wide range of processes and activities required for the creation, reconstruction or repair of buildings and structures. They are classified according to various criteria, such as the type of object, stage of construction, nature of work, etc. Let us consider the main types of construction works, their features and purpose.

Main types of construction works

  • Earthworks. This is the initial stage, which includes preparing the construction site, cleaning the area, digging pits and arranging trenches for the future foundation. Earthworks are an important component of any construction project, as a properly prepared foundation determines the stability and safety of the building.
  • Foundation works. Laying the foundation is the basis of the building, as it is the foundation that carries the main load and ensures the stability of the structure. The type of foundation determines the choice of materials and methods of work. The performance of these works is regulated by standards, such as DBN B.2.1-10:2009 “Bases and Foundations of Buildings and Structures”.
  • Construction and installation works. This is a set of works on the construction of load-bearing structures: walls, columns, floors, roofs. These works include the construction of the building frame, its reinforcement and arrangement of roof structures. Different standards may be applied to different types of buildings (residential, commercial, industrial), for example, DBN B.2.2-9:2009 “Public buildings and structures”.
  • Engineering and communication works. This type of work involves the installation and connection to the following networks: water supply, sewage, heating, ventilation, electricity and gas supply. High-quality engineering work ensures comfort and safety during the operation of the building, so high standards are set for them. The work is carried out in accordance with regulations, such as DBN B.2.5-64:2012 “Electrical Equipment of Buildings and Structures”.
  • Finishing works. After the main construction works are completed, the premises are finished. Finishing works include finishing walls, floors, ceilings, installing windows, doors and decorative elements. These works are divided into external and internal, including plastering, painting, cladding, flooring and other works that give the premises a complete look.
  • Restoration and reconstruction works. This type of work is aimed at restoring and improving the condition of existing buildings and structures, preserving their architectural and cultural value. Restoration work often includes work performed on historical heritage sites in compliance with special regulations.
  • Dismantling works. They are performed when it is necessary to demolish an old or emergency building. This may include dismantling of structures, demolition of the building, and utilization of materials. These works require strict adherence to safety precautions and are regulated by special rules.
  • Specialized types of work. These include waterproofing, thermal insulation, soundproofing, structural strength improvement, and other works performed to improve the operational characteristics of the facility. These works are important to ensure the building’s durability, energy efficiency and comfort.
